F.A.Q.'S

Is Crossfit for me?

Absolutely!  Crossfit is universally scalable, so anyone can do it.  We have athletes, firefighters, police officers, military, as well as pregnant women, moms, and elderly clients. Whether you are a seasoned athlete, or have never worked out before, Crossfit is for you!     (c/o CrossFit, Inc.)

Do I need to be in shape before I try Crossfit?

You don’t need to be in shape to come to Crossfit, you come to Viking Crossfit to get in shape!  Every workout is scaled to each individual’s fitness level, needs and abilities.  There is personal trainer at each workout to make sure you are doing the movements safely and effectively.

Can I really get a good workout in under 30 minutes?

Yes.  Short intense workouts work!  Anaerobic activity  benefits cardiovascular function and decreases body fat. Anaerobic activity is unique in its capacity to dramatically improve power, speed, strength, and muscle mass. When properly structured, anaerobic activity can be used to develop a very high level of aerobic fitness without the muscle wasting consistent with high volume aerobic exercise.  The CrossFit approach is to judiciously balance anaerobic and aerobic exercise in a manner that is consistent with the athlete’s goals.   Read more here…What Is Fitness?

Am I going to get big and bulky?

At Viking Crossfit, we want people to be lean and fit.  Crossfit methods will not produce the competition-size mass seen in most bodybuilding magazines. What it will produce is functional lean mass and a reduction in body fat.   And for women, the vast majority of women cannot get large, masculine muscles from barbell training. There is such a profound difference in male and female testosterone levels that the strength differences between men and women are almost entirely accounted for by hormone level.  Read more here about Women and CrossFit.

It seems expensive, is that true?  Can’t I just do Crossfit at home?

Most personal trainers charge $150-200 per month or more for only 2 days a week of training.  At Viking Crossfit you can come to any class you want as many days a week that you want.  We offer quality training at a fraction of the cost.

Crossfit can be done at home, but most people do not know how to do the movements safely or correctly, which makes you more prone to injury and less likely to get to your full potential with the workouts.  At Viking Crossfit we have certified Crossfit instructors who watch you at each workout.  It is also more fun to work out with a group of people who encourage and cheer you on during your workouts.

Can I get hurt doing Crossfit?

All workouts are scaled for everyone when they begin Crossfit.  We first teach the basic movements of Crossfit and then we will incorporate Olympic lifting and other more technical movements.  You will need to be able to perform the movements safely and correctly with proper form consistently before we add weight or increase intensity.  Most people start out doing their daily workouts using little or no weight and/or scaling the reps or time of their workout.  Intensity is important, but form is more important.  We never sacrifice form for intensity.  There will be a certified trainer at each class to scale your workout appropriately and make sure your form is correct.

I have previous injuries, am I going to be able to do the workouts?

Crossfit is rehabilitative in nature.  The movements we perform are functional movements you use in your everyday life.  We can work with you and your injuries.  The goal is to help improve and strengthen the areas where you are injured and weak, as well as improving your overall fitness level.

Is CrossFit hard?

When people ask us if CrossFit is hard, we tell them to READ THIS. (Courtesy of Motorcity Crossfit).  Now what do you think is harder?  Crossfit is as hard as you make it.  If you’re not already working hard with your current exercise program, then you are not working hard enough.  The good thing about Crossfit, is that you work hard, but for only a short period of time, so it’s very doable.

There are other gyms and trainer’s out there, what makes your gym different?
